From an original oil on canvas, painted in 1912. The Icknield Way is an ancient trackway that runs from Norfolk to Wiltshire. It follows the escarpment of the Berkshire Downs, and Chiltern Hills. Gore spent time in France, where he was able to visit exhibitions by Gauguin and Cezanne. Their influence can be seen in this work.
