Beachy Head - Custom Print
King & McGaw

Eric Ravilious (1903 – 1942) was a British painter, designer, illustrator and wood-engraver, renowned for his iconic watercolour landscapes of the South Downs and English countryside. The Towner in Eastbourne (where Ravilious grew up) has long been the custodian of the largest collection of his work.
Beachy Head (1939) is one of Ravilious’ most popular watercolours depicting the downland hills, lighthouse and white chalk cliffs of Beachy Head; Eastbourne’s world-famous landmark and one of the most iconic features of the Sussex coastline. When first exhibited in 1939, this work was immediately perceived as a triumph – marking the coming of age of an artist with a particular and quite distinct vision. Following its successful reception, Ravilious was commissioned as an official war artist at the outbreak of WWII.
The original painting is part of the Towner Collection. Dimensions of original work: W58.4 x H43.2cm
