Interior at Furlongs - Custom Print
King & McGaw

Eric Ravilious (1903 – 1942) was a British painter, designer, illustrator and wood-engraver, renowned for his iconic watercolour landscapes of the South Downs and English countryside. The Towner in Eastbourne (where Ravilious grew up) has long been the custodian of the largest collection of his work.
Furlongs, a cottage in the South Downs was home to Peggy Angus, a close friend of Ravilious and fellow student at the Royal College of Art. Furlongs became a hive of artistic activity throughout the 1930s and the subject matter of many of Ravilious’ works. When he visited Furlongs, he felt ‘he had come to his own country’, as written by his biographer Helen Binyon.
Interior at Furlongs (1939) illustrates the stark interior of a corner of the cottage, where guests would find no running water or electricity and were expected to contribute to their stay by chopping wood, fetching water and on occasion helping to mend the property.
The original painting is part of the Towner Collection. Dimensions of original work: W59 x H44.5cm
