Ironbridge Interior - Custom Print
King & McGaw

Eric Ravilious (1903 – 1942) was a British painter, designer, illustrator and wood-engraver, renowned for his iconic watercolour landscapes of the South Downs and English countryside. The Towner in Eastbourne (where Ravilious grew up) has long been the custodian of the largest collection of his work.
Ironbridge Interior (1941) depicts one of the rooms in the house at Ironbridge Farm in Essex where Ravilious lived with his wife, artist Tirzah Garwood, from 1941. It was a beautiful but unmodernised house owned by the Labour politician John Stracey. The rent for the house was paid for in watercolours – much like this one. During their time living at Ironbridge Farm, Ravilious worked on a collection of interior watercolours such as this one as well as depicting the flat, patterned landscape of the Essex countryside.
The original painting is part of the Towner Collection. Dimensions of original work: W58.5 x H46.7cm
