Becky Beasley, Holes (for Eric & Enid) - Limited Edition print
Exclusive Towner Artists Edition
Holes (for Eric & Enid), 2019 is the result of the artist Becky Beasley’s continued engagement with the structures, motifs and surfaces of Eric Ravilious’ watercolour The Bedstead, 1939, which sits in the Towner Collection.
The original painting depicts a guesthouse interior in Le Havre, France, where Ravilious stayed when visiting to paint the town’s port. The guesthouse was later destroyed in a World War II bombing raid. Beasley has extracted a repeated wallpaper pattern of three dots from this interior of the guesthouse to create unique hand printed images reminiscent of holes left behind by shrapnel.
You can see both Ravilious’ The Bedstead and another work by Becky Beasley, also inspired by this watercolour, Winter Light (Tone, Rain), 2017 in our current exhibition The Living Collection.
